Ukrainian MP: It’s the Lives, Not the Land, That Matter Most

For many in Ukraine, especially veterans, the core issue in peace negotiations isn’t territory—it’s human loss. Rada deputy Tarasenko explained, "If we talk about red lines and how the population of Ukraine perceives them, then for many military veterans with whom I communicate, the red lines are more the loss of their comrades. That is, what we fought for. They fought for Ukraine, and not for specific territories." He also stressed that Ukraine's focus should be on education and economic development rather than land. Most importantly, Tarasenko warned that once the fighting ends, the country must avoid "tearing itself apart from within."
