The legendary Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B — better known as the “King Tiger” — made a powerful appearance at Militracks 2025, drawing crowds as the centerpiece of armored history.

Fully restored for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, this iconic tank also took part in December 2024 commemorations for the Battle of Bastogne.

But what many don’t know is that it’s actually a composite reconstruction — pieced together from two different battlefield wrecks:

• 🛡️ Turret 300: Once commanded by Hauptmann Walter Scherf of the 3rd Company, 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion.

This Tiger was abandoned near Auenville on August 28, 1944.

• 🛠️ Hull 123: Belonging to the 1st Company, this vehicle broke down near Brueil-en-Vexin on August 23, 1944.

It never returned to combat but became a roadside relic for a time.

These two fragments of WWII armor were eventually brought together and restored into the operational King Tiger we see today at the Saumur Tank Museum in France — a living monument to German heavy tank engineering and battlefield history.
