Pray Saying.... Hallowed Be Thy Name - Sermon on Luke 11:1-4 - Lords Day May 25th, 2025 - Trinity Reformed Church

Paternal privilege - in the model prayer the first thing we say is Father. "Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him." - Psalms‬ ‭103‬:‭13‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

3 ways to look at God as Father in scripture. The source of all things. The Father of all creation. His redemption. He is the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are accountable to Him because He created us.. This prayer is for believers. God is the Father to the Christian only. Apart from Christ we cannot have a relationship with the Father. Our mediator took our place. John 14:13, 15:16, 16:23

Adoption: the doctrine where we become children of God.. Romans 8:15. What a privilege. Abba Father - The Spirit of adoption. We are made sons. We are not true natural sons but we are sons by adoption through Jesus Christ. In the Roman world adoption was just a valid legally as a blood relative. It was very legally binding.

Regeneration: when the Spirit enters you and creates new life in us. John 3 you must be born again. John 1:13, James 1:18, begat, titus 3:5 - through the washing of regeneration. Justified by His grace that we should become heirs.

Proper Praise: Hallow His name. hagiazō Verb is connected to Holy. Set apart from all other things. Let Gods name be separate from all other things.. Name refers to the essence of God. Who He is, what He has done. Psalm 9:10. Father let your name be Holy and treated Holy. Let your person be known and revealed and treated as Holy.

Why would we ask if He us already is Holy. Because we want men to know and acknowledge that He is Holy. We can't of ourselves acknowledge Him or treat Him as Holy. Ezekiel 36:22-23 - We are a Holy priesthood. 1 Peter 2:9, John 12:28

Luke 11:1-4 (NKJV) 1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, [that] one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." 2 So He said to them, "When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as [it is] in heaven. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one."

Luke 10:22 (NKJV) "All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and [the one] to whom the Son wills to reveal [Him.]"

"For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!""
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭15‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Psalms 9:10 (NKJV) And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Ezekiel 36:22-23 (NKJV) 22 "Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "I do not do [this] for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name's sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went. 23 "And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I [am] the LORD," says the Lord GOD, "when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;"
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬
