EMANUEL: “Dr. Redfield, what’s your assessment to make America healthy again?”

REDFIELD: “You know, Mike, I think it’s critical. I mean, I think as RFK has said and I said this publicly before, I think he could be the most con consequential health secretary we’ve ever had. Our nation is sick and our kids are sick. This report is an assessment of the state of health of American children and America in general. I think it’s just shocking to find out that approximately 75% of the young people between the ages of 17 and 24 can’t pass a medical exam to join the armed forces. I think it’s shocking to find out that 20% of our adolescents are obese or 38% of people under the age of 20 have type ii diabetes. So it’s time to try to get at the root causes of our chronic health problem. And if you then go into adults, I happen to be an interternist by training, if you look at the health care system right now, well over 50, 60, 70% of our health care cost is targeted against chronic disease. I applaud it. It’s dispersed and just the first step it’s honest first step and looks at certain root causes of our poor health which is the food that we eat, the stress that young people seem to be under, the excessive use of screen time, you know, the cumulative intake of chemicals and pesticides and again, there’s a tendency in our system today to overmedicate rather than to try to correct the root causes.
