Archytas of Tarentum was a prominent ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician, and statesman, closely associated with the Pythagorean tradition. Renowned for his contributions to geometry, arithmetic, and music theory, he also stood out as a successful political leader who emphasized rational calculation and self-control. Archytas sought to unify mathematical principles with practical ethics and politics, advocating for harmony both in the cosmos and human affairs. Though closely linked to Plato and Aristotle, he maintained distinct views, particularly rejecting the strict separation of the intelligible and sensible worlds.
