Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
The Buddha here is talking about taking responsibility for one's life, and realizing that we cannot depend or count on others, and that no one is going to do this for us, that karma is done by oneself, and that only oneself receives the results of one's karma. So this is not a doctrine or something that's part of Buddhism. This is the way the world and the universe works, and I think it's actually very honest and empowering. This tells us that our life is in our own hands and we can take responsibility for ourselves and for our actions.
