Stay safe. Look out for each other. And never forget the importance of health and awareness during high-energy events.
Two tragic deaths have been reported during EDC Las Vegas, casting a somber shadow over one of the world’s most iconic music festivals. While the Electric Daisy Carnival is known for its electrifying performances, vibrant visuals, and a global community of music lovers, this year’s event was marked by heartbreaking news that reminds us all of the importance of safety, awareness, and compassion.
EDC Las Vegas 2025 brought together hundreds of thousands of electronic dance music fans at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It’s a festival that draws people from around the world with its massive stages, cutting-edge light shows, and non-stop music that runs all night long. But amidst the energy and celebration, two lives were lost.
The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the individuals as thirty-three-year-old Azmi Atassi from Flagstaff, Arizona, and thirty-nine-year-old Opkar Mahal from North Las Vegas. Both were in Las Vegas to attend EDC.
According to officials, Opkar Mahal suffered a medical episode during the event and was transported to University Medical Center. Tragically, he was later pronounced dead. His passing occurred on the festival grounds, highlighting the challenges that can arise even in a controlled, well-organized environment like EDC Las Vegas.
In a separate incident, Azmi Atassi was found unresponsive in his room at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club on Las Vegas Boulevard South. Emergency responders were called, but Atassi was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations into both deaths are ongoing, and the exact causes have not yet been released by the authorities.
Events like EDC Las Vegas are often physically and emotionally intense. Long hours, crowded spaces, extreme desert temperatures, and the potential use of substances all contribute to a high-risk environment. Every year, medical teams and volunteers are on high alert, prepared to respond to emergencies. But despite these efforts, incidents still occur.
It’s important to remember that these festivals are not just about music and lights—they’re also about community, responsibility, and care for one another. With hundreds of thousands of people in attendance, the risks are real, and the stakes can be high.
EDC Las Vegas has made numerous efforts over the years to increase safety. These include free water refill stations, extensive medical staff, cooling stations, and educational campaigns encouraging responsible behavior. But personal responsibility remains key. Hydration, rest, and moderation are not just suggestions—they are essential for staying safe at large-scale events like this.
These tragic deaths serve as a reminder that behind every ticket, every wristband, and every selfie, there is a human being. A person with family, friends, dreams, and a life that matters.
As the investigation into these incidents continues, we are left with more questions than answers. What exactly happened? Were the conditions preventable? And most importantly, how can we as a community do better next time?
We may not yet have all the details, but what we do know is that two families are grieving. Two lives have ended too soon. And for those who love EDC Las Vegas, this should be a moment of reflection.
Let’s remember Azmi Atassi and Opkar Mahal. Let’s honor their memory by being more mindful, more supportive, and more present—both at festivals and in our everyday lives.

Stay safe. Take care of yourself. And take care of those around you.
