This Christian Song is about Samson - highlighting the fact that, with all his faults, God's intent was that Samson would break the oppression of the Philistines and make war on them. Samson speaks of the passion and warfare of his youth - after 20 years of being a judge - and finding it easier to beat Philistines themselves than his own people's submitting to the Philistine mindset. So this song explains that the failings of his elder years may well have been based on cynicism. It's a warning to bold leaders to not lose the spiritual war with Satan due to frustration of fighting losing battles against sin and apathy - especially apathy - in the Church.
