“30-Year-Old Chicago Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Israeli Embassy Staffers in DC; Shouts ‘Free Palestine’ During Arrest”

On May 21, 2025, Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old from Chicago, was apprehended after allegedly shooting two Israeli embassy staff members—a man and a woman—outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. Witnesses reported that Rodriguez paced outside the museum before approaching a group and opening fire. After the shooting, he entered the museum and was detained by security personnel. While in custody, Rodriguez reportedly chanted “Free Palestine” and directed authorities to the discarded weapon.

The incident occurred during a “Young Diplomats Reception” hosted by the American Jewish Committee, aimed at uniting Jewish professionals and diplomats. Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon condemned the attack as a “depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism,” emphasizing that harming diplomats and the Jewish community crosses a red line.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation, with support from the Metropolitan Police Department. Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack and are considering it a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community.
