For over three decades, the Thomas Jefferson (Memorial?) Foundation has been in the business of slamming Jefferson. When Leslie Greene Bowman replaced the retiring Dan Jordan, the slide into sliminess exacerbated. The focus became the life of slave Sally Hemings, Jefferson's avowed mistress for some 40 years and someone who was likely illiterate, and not Jefferson, a man of extraordinary accomplishments on a global scale. Bowman used every opportunity to expose Jefferson's sexual opportunism and his racism. When she left Monticello in 2023, much damage had been done.
