Russia has lost a lot of territory to Germany.

In 1918, the Russian government signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk which yielded massive amounts of land, people, farmland and factories to the central powers. This treaty was massively damaging and humiliating which makes it odd that the Russians didn't do more to negotiate and keep more of Russia. So why did they agree to such a terrible treaty?
