This newly launched earbud headset from SoundPEATS has some interesting features such as AI Noise Cancelling Microphones, multipoint pairing and an 80ms low latency gaming mode. All of these features and others can be controlled through the PeatsAudio apps.

All the latest boxes are ticked and the compact headset in addition is robust, well made and unlike many of the rivals not hard to remove from the magnetic case.

In the box, you receive the wireless earbuds, a charging case, a charging case, a charging cable, and a set of 3 gels (one installed). Despite the small size and light weight, everything has a quality feel to it but without the flimsiness of some rivals. The buds are just small in size and weigh only 4g each but look good, and are very comfortable to wear even for extended periods.

There was a time when you had to pay plenty to get decent quality True Wireless Earbuds but the introduction of Bluetooth 5.0 seems to have changed all that. Before Bluetooth 5.0 all but the most expensive TW earbuds would continually drop out, crackle, pop and generally prove more trouble than they were worth. These earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4 technology which is supported by the latest high-end smartphones but of course, they will also work with older Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth 5 adds a longer range and greatly improves both the stability of the wireless connection and battery life and v5.4 gives even better sound quality, greater range and enhanced reliability.

First time pairing could not be simpler and took just a few seconds. Simply remove the two buds from the case and they automatically go into pairing mode. Pair them in the usual way to your phone looking for the name ‘SoundPEATS T3 Pro’. You can also begin the pairing process using the PeatsAudio app. Subsequently, taking the buds from the case powers them on, and they connect to each other and to the phone automatically, returning them to the case turns them off and begins charging. This headset can connect to two Bluetooth phones simultaneously. To do so after pairing to the first phone, keep the headset turned on but switch off Bluetooth on the first phone and pair to the second. When the first device is turned on again it will automatically connect to the headset simultaneously with the second.

You should get at least 7 hours of music time from each 90-minute bud charge and about 28 hours in total from a fully charged case, which also takes just 90 minutes to charge. There is a tiny charging status LED on the case which I found hard to see other than in low light.

Using the app I was able to select from a range of audio presets as well as design my own custom EQ and this radically improved the sound quality. Earlier headsets from Soundpeats I found to be excellent but rather bass light for my taste. Not so here, where the bass is satisfyingly prominent without being overwhelming with mid tones that are clear and well defined and a high end that is neither harsh nor sibilant. The app also offers a few other features including the ability to turn off the touch buttons on the buds themselves, so no more accidental track skipping or audio muting! The app can also be used to switch on Gaming Mode, ANC, and Transparent modes, neither of which features interest me much, as well as to monitor battery status, change the headset volume, and update the firmware.

Each bud has a single soft touch button on it which can be used to end/reject calls, play/pause music, navigate tracks, alter volume and invoke your phone’s voice assistant. The buds are IPX4 water resistant which makes them fine in light rain but don’t immerse them in water or use them in a downpour.

The buds are small, neat and comfortable to wear even up to the full 7 hours of music per charge. Calls were clear to hear and easy to make, perhaps due to onboard AI microphone noise reduction. I found call quality to be fine at each end of the conversation with no dropouts or excessive background noise.

These headphones are well priced for the technology available, indeed after EQ is applied this headset compares very well with the high-end rivals I have tried regarding sound quality and features. At the time of writing, they are priced at £26.99, after hefty discounts, and for that, they are a very decent buy.
