HISTORY OF 'THE KING OF PAVONES'

The King of Pavones is the wild story of Danny Fowlie — a guy who didn’t just move to Costa Rica… he straight-up disappeared into the jungle and built a surf town out of thin air. Pavones wasn’t some hidden gem he found — it was something he carved out with his bare hands, machete, and a dream no one else could see.

This film is built from Danny’s own 8mm and 16mm home movies, plus old photos and stories from surf legends like Rory Russell, Buttons, Mike Hynson, Fast Eddie, and Joey Cabell. It’s raw, it's nostalgic, and it's a rare window into a time when surfers were explorers, not influencers.
