Argillic alteration (high sulfer (acid) epithermals) of K-spars into Alunite clay (potassium sulfate hydroxal) and occurs where gold is concentrated at the boiling point in the high sulfatation models. The actual argillic vents are hard to find because the altered near surface clays like smectite, bentonite, dickite are easily eroded dirt piles unlike quartz pipes in the low sulfatation models.
