WE got to meet Mike Byer from Operation song on this episode. He has a large heart, and it shows. The universal idea that music is healing is supported here, but it goes even deeper than that. Music is also a bonding experience, and veterans know this well. For many moments of their day, there is music that comes along. Though it is not our normal format, we also shared a song of Mike’s. Over the Wire was his feelings about when his son joined the Army as well. … There is so much to be said for how words can be written in such a way that the feelings can be felt by those who know the stories, but even those who have never been there. Operation Song Army will be coming out soon, and it will get you a membership that will keep you in the loop, with some early access for new music. Watch for this!
We also had Steve Wilson on the show providing us with music. Steve has so many words to share, and music is where he rules - but - he also shares some thoughts about how the songwriting is so important, it is an important job. He comes from Operation Encore and his first song was actually written at a retreat with a whole crew of other veterans. It’s titled, Let It Burn. Steve says this song reminds him that it’s not about what’s wrong with the past, it’s only about what has happened in the past. The second song was titled, The Words. This is one of Steve’s Favorites. It’s the most autobiographical song according to him. You can find it on the second Operation Encore album. Everyone knows The Words to their favorite songs.
