Putin described the conversation as informative and open, but emphasized that a ceasefire would only be possible under certain conditions, particularly the neutralization and "denazification" of Ukraine, which have not yet been met.

Former military advisor Colonel Douglas McGregor, who worked for Trump, commented that the Russians were ready for a ceasefire, but only if the conditions they demanded were met. He criticized the role of Ukrainian President Zelensky as obstructive and emphasized that peace was not possible without an end to US and European military support for Ukraine.

McGregor sees two possible scenarios for the end of the war: either a complete withdrawal of American support and troops from Ukraine or a Russian offensive that takes Kyiv and Odessa
