Caleb Plant Defends Devin Haney's Boxing Style Against Critics

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Caleb Plant explained why Devin Haney performed the way he did against Jose Ramirez. Here's what he said below.

Caleb Plant says, and I quote, "It's not Devin's job to make the fight more competitive. When I first saw the first round of the Devin fight, I noticed he looked jittery. I figured he suffered from a little PTSD from the last fight against Ryan Garcia.

I thought he was fighting like that until he settled down, found his rhythm, distance, and range. After the 12th round, I realized that once he left the fight unscathed, that was the game plan.

Devin clearly trained to fight that way. That was purposeful by Devin and his team. Fighting like that for 12 rounds is not easy. The amount of discipline it takes. The amount of mental focus it takes. The amount of leg conditioning it takes, it not easy.

Was it the most appetizing fight for the fans? No. Was it the most exciting fight? No, but it's not Devin's job to make the fight more competitive. It's not Devin's job to make the fight more exciting.

It's Jose Ramirez's job to make the fight more competitive and exciting. I agree and disagree with this statement from Plant. If 2 fighters are in the ring having a non-competitive fight.

Having a non-exciting fight, then the burden is on both fighters to make the fight exciting. Especially if you want the fans to stay engaged. If you want the fans to go to sleep.

If you want to the fans to talk sh*t about your performance. If you want the fans not to pay to see you fight. Continue to put on performances like you did. That goes the same for Canelo versus William Skull. That goes the same for Ryan Garcia versus Rolly Romero as well.

Boxing is the only sport that tells the paying customer how they should like to be entertained. The paying customer knows what they want to see. If the paying customer feels it's a waste of their time to watch you fight, that's a problem.
