Modesty Doesn’t Have to Be Homely

I have VERY strong feelings about modesty and they land on both sides of the issue. Call me a hypocrite if you like, it doesn’t change the fact that two things can be true in the same space. Modesty is also one of the areas I struggle with most personally. I believe that women were created for beauty. I would also argue that it’s almost equally bad to dress like a frumpy bag lady and purposely hide any beauty you possess, as it is to dress immodestly. I believe intent matters. If I dress beautiful for my husband and happen to turn heads and/or stir lust.. that’s not my problem. However if I set out to catch eyes other than my husband’s… it’s my sin too. I do however, hate the idea that women should try to hide their God given beauty because some man can’t control himself. We all know the difference between sexy/sultry and feminine beauty. If you say there isn’t one, you’re lying to yourself.. The goal of embracing feminine beauty should be classy with a hint of mystery… not a billboard of body parts. A simple breakdown would be skimpy cat suits vs flowy sundresses. Which one showcases femininity and which one showcases body parts? Beauty is an inherently good thing, and we would do ourselves well to embrace it properly. Regardless of what society says, how we present ourselves matters. If you want to be treated with respect, carry yourself respectfully.
**this dress is last season from Anthropologie and I don’t have a link for it 🫣
