In 2011, taxi drivers in Ishinomaki, Japan, reported encounters with 'ghost passengers' in the aftermath of the devastating tsunami. A sociology student, Yuka Kudo, interviewed over 100 drivers and found that seven of them had experienced these phantom fares. These drivers described young passengers, suggesting possible ties to the disaster's young victims. Despite the eerie nature of these encounters, the drivers viewed them as spiritual experiences and perceived no fear. Kudo believes these ghost sightings emphasize the importance of each disaster victim's death and should serve as a reminder for others.
