Where the Light Comes In | A Psalm 119 Pe Blues Song
📖“Where the Light Comes In” is a heartfelt blues song drawn from the Pe stanza (Psalm 119:129–136) of the World English Bible (WEB). This portion of Psalm 119 is both a confession and a cry—from a soul yearning for the purity of God’s word in a dark, lawless world. It's about reverence for truth, grief over rebellion, and a longing for divine light.
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, written as an acrostic poem—each stanza beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The Pe stanza is the 17th out of 22, each line beginning with the Hebrew letter פ (Pe).
While the author is traditionally unknown, many believe it to have been written by King David, though some scholars suggest Ezra or other scribes post-exile. It reflects a time when the people of Israel were under pressure, surrounded by enemies, and tempted to forget the covenant. Psalm 119 reveals a heart anchored in God’s word—finding hope and clarity in His commands.
This blues arrangement digs deep into those ancient cries, placing them in a modern soundscape of soul and sorrow, yet filled with holy light.
✨ Psalm 119:129–136 (WEB - Pe)
129 Your testimonies are wonderful,
therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The entrance of your words gives light.
It gives understanding to the simple.
131 I opened my mouth wide and panted,
for I longed for your commandments.
132 Turn to me, and have mercy on me,
as you always do to those who love your name.
133 Establish my footsteps in your word.
Don’t let any iniquity have dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from the oppression of man,
so I will observe your precepts.
135 Make your face shine on your servant.
Teach me your statutes.
136 Streams of tears run down my eyes,
because they don’t observe your law.
🎶 Lyrics – “Where the Light Comes In”
Verse 1
Your words are wonderful—too deep for tired minds,
They burn through the fog like truth refined.
I don’t want easy, I want real,
A sword that cuts and dares to heal.
I’ve been walking roads that twist and wind,
But Your word is light to the stumbling blind.
The world keeps shouting loud and thin—
I’m holdin’ out for where the light comes in.
Verse 2
I opened up my mouth and sighed,
Like a soul too dry to even cry.
I’m not beggin’ for gold or fame,
I’m just starvin’ for Your holy name.
Let Your mercy roll like thunder near,
‘Cause I’m too weak to fake no fear.
The crowd plays games, but I confess—
I'm a man undone who needs Your breath.
Chorus
🎶 Streams fall down from my eyes,
For the hearts that walked right past the prize.
They forgot the law, they let it die—
Now they don’t even wonder why.
Oh Lord, shine Your face again…
Start with me. Let the light come in. 🎶
Verse 3
“Order my steps,” You said You would—
Just help me walk where the ground stays good.
Let no sin take hold again,
Don’t let pride make me pretend.
Redeem me from the grip of the cruel,
I’ve danced too long to the devil’s tune.
But now I’m Yours, Lord, here I stand—
A servant reachin’ for Your hand.
Bridge (Spoken or Sung Low)
🎤 “The entrance of Your words gives light…”
I’ve seen too many fall in the night.
If Your word’s a lamp, let it blaze in me—
‘Cause I got friends too blind to see.
Final Chorus
🎶 Streams fall down from my eyes,
Not for me, but the ones who died
Chasing smoke and breathin’ lies—
Oh Lord, give ‘em one more try.
Shine on the broken, shine on their sin…
Start with me. Let the light come in. 🎶
Outro (whispered)
“Your testimonies are wonderful… the entrance of Your words gives light.”
