The New Jersey Transit rail strike ended Sunday after the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and NJ Transit reached a tentative agreement.

Train service will fully resume Tuesday, with commuters urged to work from home Monday as the system undergoes safety checks and preparations.

The strike, the first in over 40 years, involved 450 engineers who walked off over pay disputes, halting trains that serve 100,000 daily riders.

The deal offers higher pay than previous offers, addressing long-standing wage concerns, NBC News has reported.

Gov. Phil Murphy praised the fair and affordable agreement, while union leaders thanked supporters and Congress for not intervening, emphasizing that strikes can encourage resolution.
