Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Thich Nhat Hanh here is talking about when we are actually meeting the world. The world that has happened before this present moment has already occurred. We cannot meet it. It's in the past, the future. What might happen next minute or next hour or tomorrow or next year, we cannot meet. It's in the future. Here we are now, and this is the time when we meet this present moment with mindfulness and positive intentions. Thich Nhat Hanh's quote uses the word dominion. Maybe we could say this is the time we have an opportunity to be effective. So effective means we are being awake and mindful and present, and that's it. We don't have to worry about the past or the future too much, and let's be here now. And enjoy the moment and live it in as positive a way as possible.
