In a surprising show of bipartisan support, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine (D) has endorsed President Donald Trump's decision to lift longstanding U.S. sanctions on Syria. During an interview on 'Fox News Sunday,' Kaine described the move as "positive," citing the potential for regional stability and humanitarian relief.

The sanctions, many of which have been in place for decades, were lifted following a meeting between President Trump and Syria's interim leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, in Saudi Arabia. Al-Sharaa, a former Islamist militant, has pledged reforms, including efforts to normalize relations with Israel and eliminate chemical weapons.
While some lawmakers, like Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), urge caution and emphasize the need for stringent oversight, others, including Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Jim Risch (R-ID), see this as an opportunity to support Syria's transition and counteract Iranian and Russian influence in the region.

The international community, including the United Nations, has welcomed the move, highlighting the potential benefits for Syria's reconstruction and the well-being of its citizens.
