Vlad the Impaler, or simply Vlad Tepes, was the second son of Vlad Dracul, so it's not hard to see where Bram Stoker got his inspiration for the name Count Dracula.
A Romanian ruler known for his particular viciousness--having, as his name suggests, his enemies impaled on stakes, Vlad had conflicts with Hungarian rulers, but most importantly, Sultan Mehmed II of the Ottoman Empire.
With his tipping point likely being the slayings of his father and brother, Vlad unleashed his rage through horrible atrocities that became more than legend and inspired a legend through Stoker's novel.
