22nd In our series the Epistle of Paul to the Ephesians

I. Answering Racial Discrimination - Ephesians 2:11-13
* A. They remembered the animosity and discrimination by the circumcised against those not circumcised
* 1. They were considered unclean, a spiritual pollutant to all those who were God’s chosen people
* 2. It was believed they could not be saved in that state - Acts 15:1, 5
* B. But our Lord crossed that barrier bringing salvation to the Gentiles still yet uncircumcised
* 1. Circumcision as the sign of the Abrahamic covenant was not required of Gentile disciples of Jesus
* 2. For them to be circumcised was to fall from Grace - Galatians 5:2-4

II. Jesus is our Peace and He Makes Peace - Ephesians 2:14-18
* A. By Him we are reconciled to God - Romans 5:1,10
* 1. It took Christ’s sacrifice on the cross
* 2. We went from being God’s enemies to His sons and daughters
* B. We are reconciled to fellow disciples
* 1. Broken down the middle wall of partition between those who were former enemies
* a. Those who were formerly “untouchables” were made brothers and sisters in Christ
* b. Paul was nearly killed when he was falsely accused of violating that wall - Acts 21:27-31
* 2. By His death, He abolished all that separates disciples
* 3. The new humanity Jesus created is centered on Himself and so united that it is as if it were one person - John 17:11, 20-23
* C. We must love one another - 1 John 4:7-11
