2 VEHICLE CRASH, 1 PERSON FLOWN, GOODRICH TEXAS, 05/16/25...

2 Vehicle Crash, 1 Person Flown, GOODRICH, May 16, 2025 - At approximately 3:05 pm on May 16, 2025, a gray 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by Santiago Ospina Ortiz, 27, of Cypress, was south-bound on US-59. As Ortiz was about to pass the north end of Loop 393, a blue 2024 Toyota Camry, driven by Roberta Gooby, 81, of Goodrich, pulled off of 393 directly in front of Ortiz. Ortiz's vehicle broadsided Gooby's vehicle. The impact caused Gooby's vehicle to slide across the pavement to the north-bound lanes of 59 where she came to rest. Ortiz's vehicle came to rest on the pavement of the south-bound side. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit was dispatched to the scene along with Allegiance Ambulance Service, Deputy Brandon Sanford with The Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Corporal Ramey Bass with The Texas Highway Patrol (Trooper Bass was assisted by Trooper Damon Zarate and Trooper Adamick from San Jacinto County). Gooby was entrapped in her vehicle. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut her door off and safely remover her from her vehicle. An Air Life medical helicopter landed on the north-bound side of 59. Gooby was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston with neck and head injuries. Ortiz was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. All traffic on 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. This accident remains under investigation by The Texas Highway Patrol. Gooby is likely facing a citation for failure to yield. Ortiz's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be store in Livingston, while Gooby's vehicle was recovered by Dan's Towing out of Livingston.
