This guy is such a clown!
Charlie LeDuff interviewed U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar from Michigan. The interview took place outside Thanedar’s “Impeachment Town Hall” in Lincoln Park, Michigan, on May 14, 2025.
LeDuff questioned Thanedar about his representation of Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, notably highlighting Thanedar’s inability to name five communities he represents. The event had low attendance, with only 27 people present, including staff and others. The interview was awkward for Thanedar, particularly due to his push for impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
The congressman from Michigan who has advocated for the impeachment of President Donald Trump is Shri Thanedar, a Democrat representing Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, which includes Detroit and parts of Wayne County. On April 27, 2025, Thanedar introduced seven articles of impeachment against Trump, citing allegations of “sweeping abuse of power, flagrant violations of the Constitution, and acts of tyranny that undermine American democracy and threaten the rule of law.” Specific charges included obstruction of justice, abuse of executive power, unlawful deportations, defiance of court orders (notably a Supreme Court ruling regarding the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia), and misuse of the Department of Justice, among others.
Thanedar’s impeachment effort, announced via a statement and a video on X, emphasized Trump’s alleged unfitness for office and danger to democracy. However, the resolution faced significant resistance, even from fellow Democrats, who argued it distracted from pressing issues like healthcare and was unlikely to succeed in a Republican-controlled Congress. By May 14, 2025, Thanedar opted against forcing a House vote on the articles amid backlash from his party, with only one Democrat, Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, remaining a cosponsor.
Trump responded during a rally in Warren, Michigan, on April 29, 2025, calling Thanedar a “lunatic” and questioning his motives.
Thanedar, a millionaire businessman and Indian immigrant who became a U.S. citizen, has served in Congress since 2023 and faces primary challenges in 2026.
