Able Sunreaver was not stupid. Naive, maybe. Ignorant, sure. Autistic, absolutely.

But stupid? Well, given how long it took him to realize he was technically a father... Maybe when the stars aligned.

And with the connections he now had, align they would.

Captain Noraktiel checked over his helm's auto-pilot settings one last time before the end of his shift. This was a stable, conflict-free region of space with nary an asteroid or gravity well in sight, but he didn't get to live this long by being careless. Satisfied, Noraktiel surrendered the helm to a watchcrab and retreated from the bridge.

Able was waiting for him in the hall, nervously picking at loose threads on his jacket sleeve. Noraktiel would have been worried once before, but he'd come to know his human as a nervous person in general, at least when their lives were not actively at stake, and it always gave him great pleasure to see that nervousness ebb in his presence. When Able asked Noraktiel to join him on the observation deck in that delightful stammer of his, Noraktiel at once agreed.
