Zakiya Folami Jendayi is a California native who has called Oakland home for over 30 years. She is an educator, activist, and Account Executive with Serve First Credit Card Processing.

Zakiya earned two bachelor’s degrees from San Francisco State University—one in Black Studies and the other in Radio and Television—with a minor in Asian American Studies. She also holds a master’s degree in Ethnic Studies. Her passion for education has led her to teach African American Studies at Laney College, Merritt College, and the College of Alameda.

A world traveler, Zakiya has journeyed throughout Africa, Japan, China, Europe, the Caribbean, and across the United States. She is deeply connected to her faith and community, and enjoys spending time in nature, dancing, attending sporting events, and exploring plant-based cuisine. A proud vegan, she has not eaten meat in over 30 years.

For the past five years, she has been courageously fighting systemic injustice within the probate court system—defending the estate she legally inherited from her beloved university professor and friend in 2013.
