SCRIPTURE READING FOR TODAY
Gen 37:25-28

25 Then, just as they were sitting down to eat, they looked up and saw a caravan of camels in the distance coming toward them. It was a group of Ishmaelite traders taking a load of gum, balm, and aromatic resin from Gilead down to Egypt.
26 Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain by killing our brother? We’d have to cover up the crime.
27 Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother—our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed.
28 So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.

Gen 37:25-28 - The Parallel Between Joseph & Jesus
The insensitivity and stupidity of the brothers toward Joseph is further seen in settling down to eat a meal, after he was literally ‘killed’. Midian was a son of Abraham by his concubine Keturah (Gen 25:2, Gen 25:4; Gen 36:35). The name Midianites is used interchangeably with the name Ishmaelites (v. Gen 37:25). Twenty shekels of silver may have been the going rate for a slave at the time. According to Gen 42:21, Joseph begged his brothers not to sell him. The brothers considered Joseph as good as dead; he would never return from Egyptian slavery. This account was later captured in song (Psa 105:17), and this shameful act finds its parallel in the price paid to Judas for betraying the Savior (Mat 27:3-10; The brothers not only considered killing Joseph, but started discussing how they could make the crime profitable, vs 26

Gen 42:21 Speaking among themselves, they said, “Clearly we are being punished because of what we did to Joseph long ago. We saw his anguish when he pleaded for his life, but we wouldn’t listen. That’s why we’re in this trouble.”

Ps 105:17 Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave.

3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders.

Personal Supplication
Father, just as selling Joseph into Egypt was your agenda to make him a saviour of his brothers and the world, turn everything around in my world in my favour in Jesus name. Rom 8:28

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Because I dwell in the secret place of the most High, I Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver me from the snare of the fowler, And from the noisome pestilence. Only with my eyes shalt I behold And see the wicked receive their rewards. Because I have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the most High, my habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For God shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all my ways. They shall bear me up in their hands, Lest I dash thy foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the dragon shalt I trample under feet. Because I have set my love upon God, therefore will He deliver me: He will set him on high, because I have known His name. I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me: He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me, and honour me. With long life will God satisfy me, And shew me His salvation. So shall it be for me and my household throughout this week in Jesus' name!
