Uruguay's former president José Alberto "Pepe" Mujica Cordano was an icon of the left. In this film, his advocacy for a fairer world is interwoven with the globalized stories of African migrants, Spanish and Japanese workers.

The documentary blends stories of people on three continents: African migrants who want to flee to Europe, Spanish workers who can no longer afford to live where they are, and Japanese employees who are lonely in the modern world. While continents, social classes, and ethnicities may separate us, at the heart of our human existence we are all one. We all have wishes, desires, hopes and dreams. It is here that opportunity lies, not only to address the negative effects of globalization, but to create something new together.

The former President of Uruguay, José 'Pepe' Mujica (20 May 1935 - 13 May 2025), guides us through this film, reminding us time and time again of our humanity.
