Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed an insect-sized hopping robot capable of navigating rugged terrain and carrying heavy payloads, offering potential applications in disaster response and exploration. PhD student Yi-Hsuan (Nemo) Hsiao at MIT's Soft and Micro Robotics Lab says, unlike flying robots, the "hopping design recycles energy," which allows it to carry a heavier payload.
