Mission Possible - Trout Lake Restoration

Scene: A Quiet Dock at Sunset – Trout Lake (Flashback & Present)

Joe Jukic and Tom Cruise sit side by side on the old, weather-worn dock. The sun casts a golden glow over what was once clear, shimmering water. Now, algae blooms paint the surface in a sickly green hue.

Joe Jukic (gazing into the water):
Remember when the catfish used to dance at the end of our lines? Like they were doing some underwater jig just for us?

Tom Cruise (chuckling softly):
Yeah. Trout Lake was magic back then. Cold, clean, alive. We'd cast our lines, and the world just... slowed down. No cameras, no noise. Just us, the lake, and the fish.

Joe:
Now it smells like death in July. Eutrophication—they even gave the lake a clinical diagnosis. Like it’s a patient in palliative care.

Tom (nodding solemnly):
Too much phosphorus runoff. Fertilizers, septic leaks... We fed the algae more than the fish. And the oxygen... gone.

Joe:
We watched it die. Like losing an old friend.

Tom (leaning forward, eyes lit with determination):
But it’s not Mission: Impossible. Not this time. Lakes can come back. We just need to choose to bring them back. Wetland buffers. Better agriculture. Community cleanup. Policy. Passion.

Joe (smirking):
You're getting preachy, Maverick.

Tom (grinning):
I’ll take the sermon if it means the next generation can catch a catfish instead of a rash.

Joe (quietly):
Trout Lake deserves a resurrection.

Tom (looking out at the water):
And the world deserves hope. Let’s be the guys who made restoration possible.

They sit in silence as a breeze stirs the surface. For a moment, it’s as if the lake remembers its past too.
