What Was the Deal Between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia?

In May 2025, former U.S. President Donald Trump visited Saudi Arabia and announced a massive $600 billion investment agreement between the two countries. The deal includes:

$142 billion in arms sales – the largest in U.S. history – supplying Saudi Arabia with advanced combat systems, air and maritime defense, and training.

$20+ billion in AI and tech projects, including Saudi-funded data centers in the U.S. and American semiconductor support for Saudi startups.

Joint development in energy, critical minerals, and infrastructure, expanding both nations' economic footprints.

Trump called it a “historic partnership,” while critics question why such vast resources are going into militarization — not into urgent peace efforts in Gaza, Ukraine, or for Palestinian civilians.
