In this chapter, things from from bad to worse as more and more people get more and more upset and emotional. Korah, a Levite, is apparently seeking to know why Moses and Aaron are leading them when the whole congregation when "everyone is holy". Is it jealousy, or something more?

Well, God proposes a test. The men who believe that God is not leading through Moses and Aaron, about 250 men, will bring censers or burners with incense and God will decide who's leading.

The people from the tribe of Reuben aren't showing up, so the earth swallows them up, literally. Then fire from heaven consumes the 250 men who are trying to usurp the priesthood.

God has had it, and tells Moses and Aaron to leave so that God can consume the stiff-necked people. Moses realizes what's going on and has Aaron run among the congregation with incense and atone for the people to stop the plague.

When we are stirring up a rebellion against the people that God has put in charge, that makes him angry.
