Peru Hosts International Security Congress to Tackle Organized Crime With Global Leaders

In a powerful display of regional unity and global determination, the National Association of Councilors of Peru has officially called upon all political authorities, local governments, and key civil society actors to attend the First International Congress on Citizen Security and the Fight Against Organized Crime, to be held on May 13, 15, and 16 at the Auditorium of the Peruvian-Japanese Cultural Center, located on Avenida Gregorio Escobedo 803, in the district of Jesús María, Lima.

This high-level event, sponsored by the Municipality of Jesús María, seeks to strengthen institutional cooperation and create a platform for the exchange of successful strategies, real-world experiences, and international collaboration in the face of transnational crime threats that undermine public order and safety.

National and International Leadership in Attendance
The Congress will feature the participation of key Peruvian figures such as Roberto Chiabra, current Congressman and former Minister of Defense; Marco Miyashiro, retired General of the National Police and former Commander of the elite GEIN intelligence unit, renowned for capturing Abimael Guzmán, the leader of the Shining Path terrorist group; Javier Gamero from the Ministry of the Interior; and Gastón Rodríguez, former Minister of the Interior.

On the international stage, the event welcomes participation from representatives of the Republic of El Salvador, a country recognized for its strong and effective crime-fighting policies under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele. Additionally, Luis Contreras, a Spanish political advisor and security consultant currently working in the United States, will share insights, alongside María Herrera Mellado, Doctor of Legal Sciences and international analyst specializing in migration and security.

Mayors from Peru and El Salvador will also attend, helping to forge a unified Latin American agenda for public safety and strategic coordination in the fight against organized crime.
