Fox Business: Two Protesters Arrested at Newark ICE Facility

DEANGELIS: “Welcome back. The DHS warning that there could be more arrests following the incident at the federal immigration detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday, and lawmakers face assault charges. The protests continue today and just moments ago, two protesters have just been arrested at the facility. Fox News’s Alexis McAdams live in Newark, New Jersey, with more for us. Hi, Alexis.”

MCADAMS: “ — arrested moments ago, taken away in handcuffs. This came after hours, Jackie, of them sitting here right behind me in front of the ICE detention facility and they were just blocking these people from coming and going like ICE — apologize — from entering this facility. So the Newark PD had to show up. They’re saying they’re peaceful, they’re locking arms, saying they’re not going anywhere until this ICE facility is closed down. And they wanted to voluntarily, you know, get arrested. So that is what could happen — there was chaos, though, in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday. One Democratic lawmaker caught on camera shoving and elbowing an ICE officer. Three other Democratic Congressmembers from New Jersey are accused of trespassing. And you can see it here live on your screen. The Newark Police Department kind of move in, trying to move these people to separate them from the fence, and some of them kind of abide, but they sure lock arms and kind of yell back. So we’ll keep an eye on it. One more thing as I want to show you this facility here behind us, Jackie. So it only opened about a month ago here in Newark, New Jersey, but it’s been the site of a lot of protests here, as you can see. And so, this facility specifically, we’re told by DHS, has what they say is the worst of the worst. 75 percent, they say, the detainees in this facility are felons. Fox and Friends went inside earlier. Check this out.”

CAMPOS-DUFFY: “The person who ends up in this facility is not just that they crossed the border illegally. You’ve had to have done more than that, correct?”

LYONS: “Right. So, currently today, as we’re walking through here today, there’s 152 detainees, 75 percent of those have committed crimes, convicted a crime or pending criminal charges. So —“

CAMPOS-DUFFY: “What kind of crimes are we talking about?”

LYONS: “We — unfortunately, it runs the whole gamut. So, we have people convicted of murder, pending rape charges, fentanyl distribution, child porn distribution, wire fraud. More than 75 percent of the people that are here are felons, bad people you don’t want anywhere near.”

MCADAMS: “And the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, already was arrested — charges around the table for those Congressmembers who pushed their way inside. The Congressmembers say they just wanted to do an oversight visit. These people say kind of the same thing, but they’re not allowed to go inside. They’re not Congressmembers or anybody that even had an appointment. So we’ll keep an eye on it. Jackie.”
