In early May 2025, while in Tehran to participate in the Sobh Media Festival, Dimitri Lascaris explored life in the capital of Iran.

Over a period of one week, he travelled by subway and automobile from northern Tehran to the southern limit of this massive city.

Along the way, he visited the former U.S. Embassy in Iran, which has been converted into a museum named "The Den of Espionage".

He also walked through the historic Grand Bazar in central Tehran, toured a cultural centre known as "Artists' Park", and visited one of the dozens of active synagogues in Iran.

Lascaris completed his tour of Tehran by visiting the Behesht-e Zahra (Paradise of Zahra) cemetery. This cemetery lies at the southern edge of Tehran and is Iran's largest cemetery. In the martyrs' section are buried many of the soldiers who died in the devastating Iran-Iraq war.

As Lascaris explains, the forces of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, who invaded Iran in 1980 without lawful justification, killed more than 50,000 Iranians with chemical weapons.

Those weapons were developed with the assistance of firms from the United States, Britain, France, the Netherlands and West Germany. In the latter part of the Iran-Iraq war, the U.S. government supplied intelligence to the Hussein regime about the location of Iranian military forces. The U.S. provided that intelligence knowing that Hussein's forces would attack Iranian forces with chemical weapons.
