Starmer’s Answer To Local Election Losses Is To Be More Racist.
Right, so Labour have embarked on a period of self reflection following those devastating local election losses, the biggest local election losses Labour have ever experienced since they first started being recorded, 65% of council seats they were defending were lost, if this had been Corbyn, the demands he resign would have come thick and fast, but Keir Starmer is of the Labour right and so his job remains safe despite the rubbish job he’s doing. Labour have apparently listened to our concerns, listened to the reasons they lost and have seemingly binned all of that off and decided that the answer to their problems is to just be more racist as they continue regardless of what we want or think in chasing those Reform UK votes that are never going to go to Labour. At the sharp end of his changes though, are care workers. We already don’t have enough of these, for years we have needed to recruit from abroad because this is skilled work, that gets paid terribly and suddenly slamming the door in their faces is apparently the vote winning strategy Starmer thinks we need. His tin-eared refusal to do what is best for the country and only what this political pygmy thinks best benefits himself and calling it wrong every time, will deservedly backfire on him once again, but if Reform continue to benefit from his failure, even in the wake of this knock off Rivers of Blood speech Starmer gave today, if he’s not removed soon, the UK’s descent into fascism at the next election becomes more and more inevitable.
Right, so at a time when the United Kingdom faces deep challenges such as skyrocketing living costs, a broken public service infrastructure, and a critical shortage in sectors like adult social care—Labour leader Keir Starmer has chosen to focus his political energies not on fixing any of these but making matters even worse. His latest speech and its accompanying white paper on immigration, unveiled in the wake of bruising local election losses to Reform UK, show Starmer has learned absolutely nothing from those losses as his Labour Party willingly continues to pander to the far-right by scapegoating migrants, instead of making the moral case for them and why so many of them are needed and abandoning the very principles of equality and solidarity Labour once stood for.
Instead of addressing the structural and political failures that have disillusioned voters, and we know what they are, because pollsters have polled this and found out, which range from broken promises, the winter fuel allowance cuts, not addressing public services or the cost of living crisis, allan increasingly visible abandonment of working-class needs as these are—Starmer has turned to the tried and repeatedly failed tactic of blaming migrants. To which end, he has therefore announced plans to reduce this, part of which is to prevent care homes from recruiting workers from abroad unless those individuals already hold a UK visa.
It is a failed strategy of the right to do this, the Tories tried and failed, Farage has made a career out of standing on cliffs and pointing at small boats, but its all rooted in racism, cloaked in a fake guise of responsibility and aimed at appeasing those who have been misled into believing that immigrants are the root of Britain's woes, when it is the political choices of idiots like Starmer, and those in recent years who came before him who ruin lives with drivel like this that they call policy. It is also a direct attack on one of the country’s most overstretched and underappreciated sectors: adult social care. There are 131,000 vacancies in care right now and only 10,000 care workers in the UK from abroad who hold a visa that can fill some of that. Where are the rest coming from when this is skilled work, this is work that people have to go through rigorous checks to work in, and who get paid barely more than minimum wage for the long hours and dedication required. There’s a reason we have to recruit from abroad, the terms of the work are awful, not helped by many care institutions being private enterprises dedicated to making profit at the expense of low paid workers and minimally served residents.
Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, have pushed a relentless campaign of xenophobic and anti-migrant rhetoric. This strategy, has certainly been electorally beneficial to him, a populist position rooted in a pack of lies, yet it is inherently corrosive to the social fabric of the UK and yet despite that, Starmer has apparently looked at this and thought I’d like a slice of that. Reform promotes a false narrative of Britain as being "overrun" by migrants, ignoring the economic, social, and demographic realities that make immigration not only necessary but beneficial and where Labour should be making the case for that, Starmer is hanging onto Farage’s coat-tails hoping to pick up a few racist votes along the way.
It is disappointing, but it is not surprising that Keir Starmer has responded not with moral leadership, but with mimicry. He stands for nothing except that which he thinks will give him some electoral advantage and its simply exposed him as one of the most dishonest politicians in living memory, standing for nothing, jumping from one populist position to another for as long as he thinks its politically expedient. By echoing the policies and tones of the far right, Starmer just legitimises their hateful rhetoric and emboldens the worst elements of British political discourse and drives voters to them. He aligns Labour with the most reactionary elements of British politics rather than offering a true alternative and can’t understand why people then vote for the real thing and not his copycat routine.
Rather than focusing on the root causes of Labour’s electoral underperformance, Starmer has shifted blame onto migrants and that’s understandable if you’re familiar enough with Starmer to know he never accepts ever being wrong, never admits fault, never apologises, there must be some other reason things didn’t work out, it couldn’t possibly be him, so a scapegoat gets found. His plan to restrict care home recruitment from overseas unless a visa is already held is a prime example of policy driven by optics rather than need.
The care sector is in a state of crisis. According to Skills for Care’s 2023 report, there are approximately 131,000 vacancies in adult social care in England alone as I’ve said and next to nobody to fill them. These vacancies are not due to an oversupply of foreign workers, it’s a drastic shortage of them actually, but if you want to take them out of the equation then you have to look to systemic underinvestment, poor wages, and inadequate recognition for what is an essential and skilled profession. Recruitment and retention are major hurdles in a sector where workers often endure long hours, emotional labour, and minimal support. Foreign workers have been essential to plugging these gaps, ensuring that elderly and vulnerable Britons receive the care they deserve. Having taken their winter fuel allowances though, Starmer is now going to make them getting care that much tougher.
Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, little miss immigration mugs as this channel lies to call her, is in her element here, with some migrant bashing. Listen to this:
She has just doubled down on the policy, indicating that Labour is fully aware of the damage these changes will cause, but its all for electability right? That matters more than actual governance it seems, making sure they stay in power, to do what? Continue to fail to deliver for ordinary working class people all over again? We won’t vote for it and the local election results ought to be a warning, but its going ignored. This is not an oversight; it is a deliberate political calculation. But sacrificing the care sector for a few polling points among anti-migrant voters is not just immoral—it is economically and socially disastrous.
Labour’s claim that care workers are "low skilled" is both inaccurate and deeply offensive. Becoming a competent care worker requires significant training, emotional intelligence, and a resilience that few other professions demand and I don’t think everyone can do it, I couldn’t do it. These are the people who bathe, feed, and comfort our elderly and disabled. To treat them as expendable or undeserving of legal entry to the UK is to fundamentally misunderstand the nature of their work—and the humanity of those who do it and fails those demographics Labour are already too comfortable in punching down on.
The care industry and unions have rightly responded with outrage. Care home leaders warn that Labour’s proposed visa restrictions will put services at risk, undermining the already fragile system and leaving countless vulnerable individuals without adequate support. This is not just bad policy; it is cruel and reckless governance.
While Starmer did not focus his speech on so-called "small boats" or hard immigration figures that he intends to reduce immigration by, the thrust of his argument—the decision to restrict access to jobs in care for foreign nationals—is a clear signal of his intent to court xenophobic sentiment. Comparisons to Enoch Powell’s infamous "Rivers of Blood" speech, though extreme, are being made not just because of direct parallels in language, but because of shared ideological underpinnings: the suggestion that immigrants pose a threat to British identity and stability when it is the reverse that is actually true.
Contrary to the narrative of Starmer and his manufactured migrant crisis, the Migration Observatory at Oxford University confirms that migration levels, when viewed over the long term, have remained relatively stable for decades. The foreign-born population of the UK stood at just 15% in 2021–22. Migration spiked in 2024 though, funnily enough, largely due to increased demand for care workers and due to international students—both of which contribute positively to the economy.
Moreover, emigration is also rising, with many Britons seeking opportunities abroad due to a stagnating economy and declining quality of life in the UK. As the UK’s death rate now outpaces its birth rate—a trend exacerbated by the cost of living crisis—the need for immigration becomes even clearer. We are an ageing society in need of young workers, carers, and taxpayers and people can’t afford to start families. Turning them away is not only economically illiterate but socially self-destructive.
The call to 'bring down the numbers' fails to acknowledge the global and domestic forces driving migration. Wars abroad—many of which the UK has played a role in initiating or prolonging—continue to displace millions. Meanwhile, the chronic underinvestment in British education and vocational training has left the country dependent on foreign labour to sustain key sectors like health and social care.
To talk about reducing immigration without addressing these factors is to peddle a fantasy. Starmer’s approach is thus doubly deceptive: it misleads the public into believing migration is a problem in and of itself, and it offers no credible plan for meeting the country’s actual workforce needs.
Keir Starmer’s immigration speech and policy proposals are a shameful capitulation to the far right, a betrayal of Labour’s foundational values, and a direct attack on both migrants and the care sector. It is a vision of Britain that is smaller, meaner, and less just. Rather than challenging the fear-driven narratives of parties like Reform UK, Starmer has adopted them, reinforcing the lie that migrants are the problem and not the victims of a broken, unequal system that we all lose out under as well.
Britain needs leadership that speaks honestly about our challenges and proposes solutions rooted in fairness, investment, and inclusion. That means recognising the invaluable contributions of migrant workers, particularly in sectors like adult social care. It means investing in public services, supporting pensioners, and addressing the cost of living crisis making all of us increasingly poorer in what is supposed to be the 6th largest economy on the planet, but which we never see any of.
Starmer can stick this nonsense where the sun doesn’t shine. We must reject the politics of scapegoating, its gone on long enough and is blatantly untrue and instead demand policies that reflect our shared humanity and mutual dependence. Starmer’s current trajectory offers none of that and until he realises he’s the problem, we need to keep punishing Labour at the ballot box, but voting for Reform as if they are change, is even more foolish.
It is time to stop blaming migrants and start addressing the real causes of these real problems.
Meanwhile, while Starmer takes issue with most migrants, it seems he’s got no problem inviting proscribed terrorists here, as despite the Al-Qaeda linked group HTS being very much on the UK proscription list, its leader, who now happen to be the self declared President of Syria, Ahmed Al Sharaa, has been invited to the UK for a visit. Never mind the minorities his outfit have been wiping out, he’s pro Israel so all is fine. Hypocrisy on steroids, get all the details of that story in this video recommendation here as your suggested next watch.
