Mortar Teams on the Front Line: Precision and Speed in Action ( Rapid Mortar )

Today's episode of "How are we doing?" will showcase the work of the mortar teams of the Third Separate Assault Brigade, who are fighting on the Bahmut direction. Their mission is to cover infantry during an offensive and to strike the enemy who attempts to attack.

Speed and accuracy are crucial in the work of a mortar crew: they arrive, deploy, aim precisely at the target, fire, and quickly retreat to avoid incoming fire.

The sight is the most valuable asset of a mortar. "When the counter-battery fire hits, you drop the sight and run because you won't be able to use it anymore," the mortar crews joke.

"There are carriages to direct the barrel, the barrel itself. There are two types of mines: those that are fired by a cord, which is how we work, and there is a percussion mechanism. In other words, there are powders that explode, and when the pressure builds up, the cartridge fires," the soldiers explain the workings of this type of weapon.

The range of the mine's flight is adjusted by adding or removing powders, and the weight of the mine affects the scattering of fragments. Like any weapon, a mortar needs to be properly maintained, as even weather conditions can affect its operation.
