Joint statement from the IDF Spokesperson, Shin Bet spokespeople, and police spokespeople: IDF, Shin Bet and IDF fighters eliminated the head of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in Jenin, who had established terrorist infrastructure and planned attacks in the immediate future.

Earlier today, IDF and Shin Bet fighters, together with IDF forces from the Samaria Brigade, operated in Nablus to arrest terrorist Nur Bitawi, the head of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in Jenin.

The terrorist, Nur Bitawi, promoted significant terrorist activity and was involved in directing, financing, and carrying out attacks against Israeli citizens and security forces. Bitawi also maintained contacts with Hamas in Gaza and Hamas abroad.

Bitawi was responsible for funneling terrorist funds to Jenin and the other villages in the area, and within this framework, he worked to recruit and arm terrorists in order to carry out attacks against IDF forces. At the same time, he led the production of explosives and their planting in the Jenin area.

The terrorist was wanted for several months after he was identified by security forces fleeing from Jenin towards Nablus following the operation in northern Samaria. After intelligence and operational activity by the Shin Bet, the terrorist was located in a house in Nablus.

The Yamam, Shin Bet and IDF fighters surrounded the house where he was staying, and killed him and another terrorist.

The security forces will continue to work to thwart terrorism in Judea and Samaria in order to maintain the security of the citizens of the State of Israel.
