Benzo Bukhenik's big day in court - Karen Read Days 12 & 13 update

On the 12th and 13th day of the Karen Read trial, Trooper Yuri “Benzo” Bukhenik took the stand for a marathon session of testimony. This type of cross examination is reminiscent of Barry Sheck cross examining Dennis Fung in the OJ trial. While this cross examination probably won’t go eight and a half days, it will continue into a 3rd day on Monday.

One of the reasons for the length is the reluctance of the witness to actually answer the questions presented. The judge has rendered multiple suggestions to Benzo to please answer the questions asked and not equivocate. Another reason for the length is it seems Yuri is like a Ramone’s song, he wants to be sedated, hence the nickname “Benzo”.

This video captures some of the reluctance of the witness to testify with genuineness, accuracy and integrity, and instead shows how he obfuscated, deflected and was just looking to argue every single question. In a rather humilitating section of testimony, Benzo was required to read 150 pages of text messages between Karen Read and Brian Higgins. Cringe doesn’t even begin to describe that.
