Cuba: Misery, Prostitution, and Socialism

While the spokespeople for global progressivism continue defending the supposed virtues of Cuban socialism, a video filmed by a citizen in the streets of Havana has brutally revealed the reality the Castro regime tries to hide. Three young Cuban women, visibly exhausted but resigned, candidly confess that prostitution has become their only means of survival in a country ravaged by more than six decades of communism.

“This country is useless,” says one of them. “Here, in one day, I can earn $200. Working for the State, they pay me 3,000 Cuban pesos, which isn’t even worth three dollars. Who can live like that?” The testimony reflects the daily struggle of thousands of women who, lacking opportunities, basic services, and a decent wage, end up in the streets selling their bodies as their only escape.

In the video, the women speak with a terrifying normalcy. They have become accustomed to injustice, violence, and abuse. “They have hit us when they don’t want to pay,” they say. “Sometimes we have to threaten clients because they threaten us.” They don’t have a “pimp,” they assure, but they work in groups, among colleagues. “We call the shots, but sometimes we have to be tough,” they admit.

Their service prices range from $150 to $250, depending on the client. “It’s not the same with a young guy as with an old guy,” they explain. “We have to look well-groomed, well-dressed, because there’s a lot of competition. Many do the same.” One of them states flatly that she would never allow her aunt or future daughters to follow this path. “My aunt will never lack anything. I’ll give her everything I never had,” she says.

This scenario is not new, but by 2025, it has reached unsustainable levels. The Cuban socialist model has collapsed in every way: economically, morally, and humanly. While those in power live with privileges, most of the people survive amid blackouts, food shortages, lack of medicine, and meager wages. Women, in particular, bear the weight of this crisis: many turn to sex work, not as a choice, but as their only alternative.

A shame the world ignores

While these testimonies come to light, the international community remains silent. Where are the human rights defenders? Where are the progressive feminists who loudly criticize the United States on social media? Why do they remain silent in the face of this modern-day slavery? The answer is simple: the left does not critique itself. They prefer to continue romanticizing the Cuban revolution rather than admitting its complete failure.

Trump and the uncomfortable truth

Since returning to the presidency, Donald J. Trump has made it clear: you cannot negotiate with dictatorships. In his second term, he has intensified sanctions against communist regimes and has demanded that the international community stop turning a blind eye. Cuba does not need charity; it needs freedom. And under Trump, the United States will not be complicit in silence.

What this video shows is not just a personal testimony: it is a portrait of an inhumane, degrading system incapable of offering a future. It is also a warning to the rest of the continent: what is happening in Cuba is the inevitable fate of any nation that submits to socialism.

A moral choice for the free world

Now more than ever, citizens of free countries must raise their voices. It’s not enough to be outraged on social media: we must defend the values of freedom, private property, dignified work, and respect for human dignity. Because while in Cuba, a woman earns more in a day selling her body than in a month working for the State, socialism continues to claim silent victims.

Cuba needs help, yes. But not charity: it needs international pressure, it needs isolation from the regime, it needs the free peoples to turn their backs on Castroism and embrace the cause of liberty. Because if the world does not act, the prostitution of these young women will be just one more among thousands of tragedies hidden by an ideology that has been failing for 60 years.
