Episode 18: The War for the South & The Discovery of the L-Gate

The Breaking Point – UEA Declares War

On June 16, 2381, the UEA officially declared war on the Wi-Zirakian Galactic State. Within days, UEA forces surged into enemy space, overwhelming Wi-Zirakian defenses with superior fleet coordination, cutting-edge weaponry, and overwhelming firepower. The war had begun, and the outcome was already tilting in humanity’s favor.

Desperation & Hired Raiders

The Wi-Zirakians, realizing they were severely outmatched, turned to desperate measures. Unable to halt the unstoppable march of the UEA Armada, they sought outside help—the Boki Marauders, a nomadic raider empire known for their brutal hit-and-run tactics.

The Boki Marauders launched a massive incursion into UEA space, targeting civilian trade routes, mining colonies, and border outposts. The Wi-Zirakians hoped that the chaos would force the UEA to divert resources away from the warfront.

Their plan failed.

On July 19, 2386, the 6th and 7th UEA Expeditionary Fleets intercepted and annihilated the Boki Marauders in the Tiyana Vek Star System—a star system dedicated as a nature preserve for Tiyanki Space Whales, massive jellyfish-like creatures drifting through the void.

UEA Admiral Sophie Valerian, commanding the 6th Fleet, watched as the last Boki warship was reduced to flaming wreckage, her voice cold and unwavering.

“Let this be a warning. There is no safe harbor for those who seek to prey upon humanity.”

With the Boki Raiders destroyed, the Wi-Zirakians turned to another mercenary force—the Xabir Raiders, a technologically advanced but opportunistic warband.

On October 25, 2387, the 6th and 7th Fleets once again met the enemy—this time in the Hixaros Star System, deep within UEA-controlled space. The battle was swift, decisive, and merciless.

The Xabir Raiders were completely obliterated.

A New Leap in Science – The Jump Drive Project

As the Human-Wi-Zirakian War raged on, elsewhere in the UEA, scientific breakthroughs were accelerating at an unprecedented rate. For decades, UEA research teams had worked in classified black sites, trying to unlock the mysteries of the eldritch entity defeated in the Hizar System. Now, in the late 2380s, their work bore fruit.

The result?

A fully operational Jump Drive Engine. Unlike traditional FTL travel, this new engine would allow instantaneous jumps across vast interstellar distances, far surpassing conventional hyperlane networks. This technology alone would redefine UEA military doctrine, interstellar logistics, and deep-space exploration. But more importantly—it could allow humanity to finally reach the Korinth Swarm.

The true enemy of mankind was closer than ever.

Discovery of the Human Star Bloc

While the UEA sought new ways to reach the Korinth Swarm, an unexpected signal changed everything.

The UEA science vessel UAS Fahrenheit, assigned to deep-space surveys in the galactic south, had been searching for new hyperlanes when it intercepted something shocking—a human transmission.

The source?

A rogue human stellar state calling itself the Human Star Bloc.

UEA intelligence traced their origins to human colonists captured by the Boki Raiders during the early years of UEA expansion. These unfortunate souls had been sold into slavery, forced to endure decades of hardship until they rose in rebellion, overthrowing their alien overlords and forging their own interstellar nation.

The UEA and the Human Star Bloc quickly established diplomatic contact.

With UEA diplomats and military officials arriving in secret, both governments agreed to a historic alliance—the UEA would be allowed to construct an outpost in their space, providing a forward operating base against the Korinth Swarm should they ever attempt to expand northward. The pieces were falling into place.

The L-Gate Megastructure – A Gateway to the Unknown

While the war against the Wi-Zirakians continued, the UEA science division made yet another groundbreaking discovery—one that could alter the course of history itself. On 2391, during a routine hyperspace survey mission, the UAS Fahrenheit stumbled upon something unexpected—an active L-Gate megastructure. The L-Gates had long been theorized to be remnants of a long-lost, hyper-advanced alien civilization—one that either vanished or ascended beyond known existence.

Unlike normal hyperlanes, which connected only nearby systems, the L-Gate network spanned across the entire Milky Way and beyond—linking distant star clusters outside the known galaxy.

If properly understood and controlled, these gateways would allow the UEA military, science division, and economy to expand beyond anything previously imagined.

But questions remained. Who built these L-Gates?

Why did they vanish?

And what, if anything, lay beyond the threshold of the unknown?
