THE DAY AFTER.

This movie was an ABC made for tv movie that came out back in 1983, staring Jason Robards, & upcoming stars JoBeth Williams, Steve Guttenberg, John Cullum, Jason Robards, and John Lithgow. The film was written by Edward Hume and produced by Robert Papazian. There have been several post apocalyptic movies, dating back as far as the 1950's, up to the present, about what nuclear war could be like, but lets face it they were pretty cheesy , and have a happy ending. However this movie literally scared the shit out of 100,000,000 Americans who tuned in on November 20th 1983, and made us wonder "WHAT IF"???
After watching this movie, if you still have to ask yourself "Why is Gen X So FUCKED UP"?, Its because of movies that showed us what could happen, then again we were told to hide under our desks if the air raid siren went off.
The film was broadcast on Soviet state television in 1987, during the negotiations on Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. The producers demanded the Russian translation conform to the original script and the broadcast not be interrupted by commentary.
Counseling centers were even set up in schools, and communities to help people who were traumatized by this movie.
