“Yesterday, at the mine, I did not see any Americans. Not a single European. No white people at all. The ones brutalizing the children, forcing them to work in inhuman conditions, were black men. African men, speaking the local language.”
In this self-interview, I explore the reasons and paths that led me to write this novel, through a series of questions I ask myself.
Some truths may be uncomfortable, but that doesn’t make them less real. We must have the courage to face them.
