The Forms of the Eucharist Matters | Back to the Father
What are the most powerful, significant, and world-changing words that can be spoken by a human being?
Well, it would be hard to find any more significant words than those that are spoken by a priest during the consecration of the Eucharist during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
These words spoken over the bread and the wine are referred to by St. Thomas Aquinas as the Form of the Sacrament of the Eucharist (with the bread and wine being the Matter).
We’ve been focusing on the Mystery and beauty of the Eucharist over the past few weeks on Back to the Father, and the conversation will continue on Friday’s Back to the Father Show. We’ll do a deep dive into the Form of this most excellent of Sacraments and explore St. Thomas’ teaching in the six articles of Question 78 of Tertia Pars (Third part) of the Summa Theologica.
In a world that is often superficial, nothing is more worthy of our conversation and discussion than this august topic.
