Today I want to introduce you to Mary O'Connor, a family physician for 46 years, who gave mask and vaccine exemptions during COVID-19. This got her into significant trouble with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and she ultimately lost her licence. Now, at almost 80 years old, she has to work at Walmart to provide for herself. Today I will be telling her story, though many of you have heard of Mary before.

Mary practiced as a family physician in the Ottawa area for decades. She is a strong Catholic and her faith guides and informs her decisions. During COVID, she gave various mask and vaccine exemptions to many different patients, and on October 8, 2021, several employers complained to the College of Physicians to find out if the exemptions were legitimate, which is how the College found out she was writing them, and they then began to investigate her for writing the exemptions.

The College assigned a team of four investigators to find her and her patient charts. The college had asked for her patient files but she refused. She had a friend guarding her office door and he would open and close it only to let in patients. One day he forgot to lock the door, and the investigators rushed in and searched all her file cabinets, but she had already moved her patient files out of her office. Shortly thereafter, they took her licence - permanently.

This kind of abuse ended the career of a wonderful, caring, lifelong physician. Now she has to work at Walmart to support herself. Please help her recoup some of her losses.
