Shōgun: How Hollywood will Fail Us Again

This announcement from the Hollywood hitmakers made me sigh deeply.

“Shogun, Season two to begin filming!”

I don’t know what to say here that I didn’t already put in the video, but I know that the algorithm scrapes descriptions to help viewers find content…

YouTube has become one of the worst, when it comes to the algorithm.

They’re all pretty bad, but lately YouTube has been burying more videos than not.

It’s like the logic is, “Hey, this person got over 100,000,000 views, and almost 150,000 people have signed up to see what he puts out… Let’s make sure we stifle his reach!”

Can’t lie, it’s frustrating.

Which, I guess, puts YouTube (and every platform, actually) in the same realm as the Hollywood bigwigs.

In the beginning of social media, the walls were supposed to be broken down between artists, and the general public.

“See, you don’t NEED a record label! Spotify gives you direct access!”

But then Spotify liked the power it held, and became a gatekeeper with as much disrespect for smaller artists as anyone else.

Ditto YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok…

Anyway, what was I talking about?

Oh, right.

Most of the time, Hollywood will take content from a creative person, and ruin it.

Example: 90% of movies based on books by Stephen King.

Every so often, they’ll get it right.

Examples: the first season of The Handmaid’s Tale, the first few seasons of Game of Thrones.

And then, they go too far…

Examples, the aforementioned shows, plus The Hobbit trilogy, and Rings of Power.

Ugh.

It’s just so sad.
