Bantu Stephen Biko was a key figure in South Africa’s fight against apartheid. As a student leader and founder of the Black Consciousness Movement, he believed real change had to start with self-awareness. “Being Black,” he said, “is not a matter of pigmentation — it’s a state of mind.”

Biko’s ideas challenged the apartheid regime at its core. He was arrested, tortured, and died in police custody in 1977. Though his life was brief, his message sparked a new wave of youth resistance — and his legacy still echoes across Africa.
